EPDM/Rubber Roof Replacement
In the Chinatown neighborhood of Boston, MA, we removed several inches of built-up roofing. After repairing and re-fastening the decking, as needed, we installed a fully-adhered 40ml vapor barrier; two layers of 2.5″ polyisocyanurate insulation; “crickets” behind all skylights and elevator shafts, one layer of 1/2″ high-density polyisocyanurate insulation; and 60ml epdm, fully adhered with 6″ laps.
Modified Bitumen Roof Replacement
In South Yarmouth, MA, we first separated our client’s roof from their neighbor’s by building a small parapet wall. After removing the existing roof system down to the decking, we installed a 6ml poly vapor barrier, a tapered polyisocyanurate insulation system such that water is drained toward both edges, two layers of sbs modified bitumen base sheet, and one layer of sbs modified bitumen cap sheet. The seams and flashing of all three layers were hot-air welded.
Asphalt Shingle/Decking/Insulation Replacement
In Onset, MA, after removing an asphalt shingle system, all of the decking, and all of the insulation, we installed new R49 insulation with baffles between the rafters; new plywood sheathing with h-clips; fully-adhered ice-and-water barrier over all of the new sheathing; and CertainTeed Landmark shingles, fastened with stainless steel, ring-shank nails. Though during the Winter, this roof replacement could not be delayed until temperatures more conducive to roofing; as such, we installed sealant underneath every shingle, bonding them, until higher temperatures activate the shingles’ seal strips.
EPDM/Rubber Roof Replacement
In Coventry, RI, after removing an asphalt shingle system and the vinyl siding of the abutting sidewall, we installed a CertainTeed Landmark system, replaced the siding with new vinyl, and installed a customized galvanized steel chimney cap.
EPDM/Rubber Roof Replacement
In Cambridge, MA, after removing an epdm system and replacing several pieces of plywood sheathing, we installed a 6ml poly vapor barrier; a tapered insulation system, pitching water to all three edges/away from the house; a layer of 1/2″ high-density polyisocyanurate insulation, and 60ml epdm, fully adhered with 6″ laps.
Asphalt Shingle Roof Replacement
In Somerville, MA, after removing two layers of asphalt shingles and one layer of cedar shingles, we installed new plywood sheathing over the entire roof before installing ice-and-water barrier over/around the three dormers and valleys, synthetic felt over the remaining decking, and CertainTeed Landmark Pro shingles, using stainless steel, ring-shank nails.
Rubber/EPDM Roof Replacement
In Brookline, MA, after removing several layers of modified bitumen roofing, we installed new sheathing prior to installing a 6ml poly vapor barrier, 1/2″ high density polyisocyanurate insulation, and 60ml epdm, fullly adhered.
Asphalt Shingle Roof Replacement
In Buzzards Bay, MA, after removing an asphalt shingle system and replacing a few pieces of sheathing, we installed 9″ of ice-and-water barrier under our gutter apron metal, installed our gutter apron metal, and then installed 6′ of ice-and-water barrier over the gutter apron metal and 3′ of ice-and-water barrier in the valleys. On this summer house near the beach, we installed beautiful CertainTeed Coastal Blue Landmark Pro shingles.
EPDM/Rubber Roof Replacement
In Boston, MA after removing an epdm system and then re-fastening the wood decking, we installed a 6ml poly vapor barrier, taped around the perimeter and all penetrations with air-tight aluminum tape, before installing a wood nailer around the perimeter flush with 1/2″ high-density polyisocyanurate insulation. We installed a two-piece edge metal system, using 24ga galvanized steel hook strip and .040″ Kynar-finished aluminum; C6 drip edge along the eaves and gravel stop along the rake edges, directing water toward the gutters.
EPDM/Rubber Roof Replacement
In Central Falls, RI, after removing multiple layers of a modified bitumen system and then re-fastening the wood decking, we installed a 6ml poly vapor barrier, taped around the perimeter and all penetrations with air-tight aluminum tape, before installing a wood nailer around the perimeter flush with 1/2″ high-density polyisocyanurate insulation. We installed a two-piece edge metal system, using 24ga galvanized steel hook strip and .040″ Kynar-finished aluminum; C6 drip edge along the eaves and gravel stop along the rake edges, directing water toward the gutters.
Asphalt Shingle Roof Replacement
In Coventry, RI, after installing new sheathing over the existing planking, and “crickets” behind all three chimneys, we installed 9″ of ice-and-water barrier under our gutter apron metal, installed our gutter apron metal, and then installed 6′ of ice-and-water barrier over our gutter apron metal before covering the remaining sheathing with synthetic felt paper. We installed CertainTeed Landmark shingles along with one box vent per plane, providing adequate ventilation.
Low-Rise Polyurethane + EPDM/Rubber System
In Allston, MA, as noise was an especial consideration, a fully-adhered system (significantly reducing the amount of drilling required) made the most sense. After removing the existing roof, we adhered a 40ml vapor barrier to the concrete deck. Then, using a low-rise polyurethane adhesive, we adhered a tapered insulation system, creating positive drainage toward the scupper at the end of the roof.
Chimney Re-Flashing
In Brookline, MA, after spanning the gaps between the masonry and the wood decking with galvanized steel metal, we installed malleable, waterproof tape at all corners. We then waterproofed the chimney with Grace Ice-and-Water shield, which was adhered and rolled in. Next, we installed two pieces of lead apron flashing at the bottom of the chimney, lead step flashing and lead counter flashing along the sides of the chimney, and two pieces of lead (flashing and counter-flashing) along the top of the chimney.
